A few years back I had a girlfriend who moved to another city. I think you guys know who i'm talking about but she'll remain nameless for this little entry.
Anyway, she didn't know anyone there and was just starting a new job. Needless to say it wasn't the best of times for her. The new job was hard and not having friends was even harder but I think the final straw was that me, her boyfriend, was living back at home in the comfort of complete familiarity and all of my friends. I was having a grand old time, starting a new job (I didn't really want but was excited to have) and being back in the city with all my old high school friends.
Well, her and I would talk on the phone and she would explain to me that she wasn't happy for various reasons. I could understand that, i told her to try and go out there and make some friends (which is not an easy task by any means) or at least to go out there and try and get some hobbies or do some extra cerricular activities. You know, to meet people, to occupy time and just to generally make yourself feel better. Cause there is nothing worse than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself cause you got no friends and have nowhere to go.
As most of you know the relationship ended a few months after that. I blame the downfall mostly on the situation not on her. The new city, the no friends and the boyfriend who was having a hoot. Not really a good combo for a new relationship.
Well it's now a few years later and I've moved to a new city myself. And i've realized that I should also be taking my own advice. Just like I'm sure she felt back then, I feel now. Just time to make it happen.
Baby steps, right?
